Point of departure:
More complex print jobs always lead to the crucial question of “internal or external?”. Often the decision is made in favour of outsourcing to an external printing shop. Because with in-house print on demand applications there can be more than one hitch:
- The complexity of the job (print run, high print quality requirements, complicated manual finishing) could be too much for your in-house print centre, which might result in misprints.
- The latest version of a revised document is never available in print when you need it most, and access to the file isn't possible.
- The installation of printing systems capable of handling such jobs isn't considered worthwhile as they wouldn’t be used to capacity or your existing in-house systems might be overburdened.
But outsourcing print jobs to external suppliers also has its disadvantages, starting with the cost and time factors:
- External handling is usually more expensive than in-house handling – after all, the printing shop has to make ends meet too.
- Add to that the unavoidable time and costs associated with outsourcing – from inviting offers and attending briefings to giving final authorisation before the print run.
- As external print jobs invariably necessitate planning in more handling time, the result is anything but short-term print on demand. Therefore the documents – for example letterheads or forms – need to be printed in larger quantities in advance, which involves additional costs and extra work (storage, logistics).
- This economical considerations become even more gloomy when one keeps in mind that around 30% of all pre-printed documents are never used – they go out-of-date without even leaving the storeroom. That means additional costs again for recycling or disposal.
And last but not least, one mustn’t forget that high-performance printing machines that are not being used to full capacity in one’s own company constitute the most uneconomical factor. An intelligent utilisation control system can even ensure that upgrading to higher-quality printing systems pays off.
The solution:
To solve this problem, Toshiba offers you intelligent solutions that enable you to handle even complex print jobs in-house without a hitch. This way you can produce even complicated and/or frequently updated documents in a print run of up to several thousand copies with a flick of the wrist on your own in-house machine. Print jobs become child’s play as pre-defined settings can be selected so that user interfaces are intuitively implemented. The end-to-end automation then takes care of everything. Additionally, intelligent access authorisation features ensure that confidential documents can’t fall into the wrong hands.
